Getting Ready

So, what do you need to bring? Most importantly, a spirit of service for Christ's Kingdom! The work we'll be doing will be pretty heavy duty, so dress with safety in mind. If possible, wear something like...

  • Blue jeans
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Boots
  • Work gloves

...and make sure it's clothes you don't mind getting dirty! If you have a hard hat, safety goggles, and/or dust masks, go ahead and bring them, though we'll have extras on hand.

We'll also need tools for the job, and if you have some you could bring, that would be great; though we'll be sharing if you don't have any! These are some of the types of tools we'll need:

  • Dumpster buggies
  • Wheelbarrows
  • Sledge hammers
  • Hammers
  • Crowbars or pry bars
  • Screw drivers
  • Pliers
  • Metal snips
  • Razor knives
  • Hand tools (battery operated!)
  • Reciprocal saws
  • Skill saws
  • Screw guns

The Plan

The building we are preparing was previously a print shop, with an office area at the front and a large warehouse at the back. There is still a good bit of machinery and furniture within the building, so first we will need to empty it of everything loose. Then we will be demolishing the entire interior, including ceilings, walls, and flooring. There will be dumpsters on site, and we'll be ripping everything out and tossing it.

The building has been abandoned for some time, so expect a dusty, moldy environment where we'll all need to work together and work smart. We'll definitely be using dust masks!
